But the History Channel disagrees. The network says it hasn’t canceled the show. They plan to air new episodes through 2026, even though no filming is happening now. Leaders call this a planned break, with possible restarts next year.
Mike Wolfe told People magazine in early 2024 that after 15 years, they needed four to five months off, longer than usual. With Fritz’s death, Colby’s words, no new filming, and this long pause, fans wonder if the show is just resting or truly over.
New Projects and the Show’s Future
While the original series pauses, new things are happening. History Channel ordered a spin-off called History’s Greatest Picks With Mike Wolfe. It starts February 22, 2026, and focuses on Wolfe alone. This lets the network refresh the antiques idea without the full team, a common move for aging shows.
Danielle Colby opened the Ecdysiast Arts Museum in Davenport, Iowa, in June 2024. It celebrates burlesque history with old costumes, posters, and archives from her collection. The spot also hosts shows and classes to show burlesque as real art and a positive space for sexuality. It boosts the local economy by attracting tourists.
Colby uses the museum for bigger causes too. She pushes for better laws on consensual sex work, fights human trafficking, and talks about consent and rights. She’s traveled to places like the Dominican Republic to help survivors through art programs, like making jewelry.
Small towns in Iowa, Michigan, South Carolina, and elsewhere that appeared on the show worry about losing tourist boosts without new episodes. TV experts say networks often fade out long shows slowly with reruns and spin-offs instead of a big goodbye. American Pickers might return with new people, turn into Wolfe’s new series, or just live on in repeats. No matter what, it changed reality TV and highlighted collectors and communities.
