American Pickers Canceled By History Channel After Danielle Colby Withdraws Funding

American Pickers first aired on the History Channel in January 2010. The show starred Mike Wolfe, an Iowa man who runs an antiques business called Antique Archaeology. He teamed up with Frank Fritz and Danielle Colby, who started as the office manager but became a co-star.

The group traveled across rural America, hunting for old signs, classic cars, and other cool collectibles. They visited barns, junkyards, and small towns, turning everyday finds into exciting stories. Over almost 500 episodes in 27 seasons, the show became a big hit. It helped shape the History Channel’s lineup of reality shows about antiques and American roadside treasures.

Fans loved the mix of adventure, history, and haggling over prices. It drew in viewers who enjoy stories about old stuff and small-town life.

Problems Behind the Camera

Making the show non-stop for over a decade wore out the team. Mike Wolfe said they hardly ever took more than a month off each year, leading to exhaustion.

Things changed in 2021 when Frank Fritz left due to health problems and never came back. Sadly, Fritz died in September 2024 at age 60 from stroke complications. This ended any chance of the original team reuniting.

By 2024 and 2025, the main group broke apart. Fritz had passed away, Colby stepped back for family health issues and new projects, and Wolfe geared up for something else. The close-knit dynamic that kept the show going for so long was gone.

Mixed Messages About the End

On December 3, 2024, Danielle Colby shared a video for her 50th birthday. She told fans American Pickers is “done” after 27 seasons. She said the show’s steady pay helped her family and Iowa projects, and without it, life would “get wild.”

But the History Channel disagrees. The network says it hasn’t canceled the show. They plan to air new episodes through 2026, even though no filming is happening now. Leaders call this a planned break, with possible restarts next year.

Mike Wolfe told People magazine in early 2024 that after 15 years, they needed four to five months off, longer than usual. With Fritz’s death, Colby’s words, no new filming, and this long pause, fans wonder if the show is just resting or truly over.

New Projects and the Show’s Future

While the original series pauses, new things are happening. History Channel ordered a spin-off called History’s Greatest Picks With Mike Wolfe. It starts February 22, 2026, and focuses on Wolfe alone. This lets the network refresh the antiques idea without the full team, a common move for aging shows.

Danielle Colby opened the Ecdysiast Arts Museum in Davenport, Iowa, in June 2024. It celebrates burlesque history with old costumes, posters, and archives from her collection. The spot also hosts shows and classes to show burlesque as real art and a positive space for sexuality. It boosts the local economy by attracting tourists.

Colby uses the museum for bigger causes too. She pushes for better laws on consensual sex work, fights human trafficking, and talks about consent and rights. She’s traveled to places like the Dominican Republic to help survivors through art programs, like making jewelry.

Small towns in Iowa, Michigan, South Carolina, and elsewhere that appeared on the show worry about losing tourist boosts without new episodes. TV experts say networks often fade out long shows slowly with reruns and spin-offs instead of a big goodbye. American Pickers might return with new people, turn into Wolfe’s new series, or just live on in repeats. No matter what, it changed reality TV and highlighted collectors and communities.
