A professional partnership between Marvel star Jeremy Renner and Chinese filmmaker Yi Zhou has erupted into public scandal. Zhou accuses Renner of sending explicit photos, making immigration threats, and displaying volatile behavior during their collaboration.
Her claims, made on Instagram and in a Daily Mail interview in early November 2025, have been forcefully denied by Renner’s legal team—setting the stage for a bitter Hollywood showdown.
“Unsolicited Images”: Zhou’s First Shock

Zhou says it began innocently enough—until a message from Renner on WhatsApp in June 2025 took an unexpected turn. She claims the actor sent “a series of unwanted and unsolicited pornographic images.”
Speaking to the Daily Mail, Zhou said, “I possess a collection of those photos and porn GIFs he sent,” sharing a screenshot she says shows a sexually explicit video clip.
Messages That “Alarmed” Her

What started as curiosity quickly became discomfort, Zhou says. “The frequency and tone of the messages alarmed me,” she told Daily Mail, describing them as a pattern, not a mistake.
“This was not a one-time lapse.” Renner’s representatives, however, insist the accusations are entirely false, calling them “totally inaccurate and untrue.”
A Collaboration That Turned Contentious

Their connection began in the entertainment world. Zhou brought Renner into two of her projects—Chronicles of Disney, released on October 17, 2025, and Stardust Future, an AI-animated film he had agreed to narrate.
Zhou maintains her involvement with Renner was “strictly professional.” What she had expected to be a creative collaboration began to feel unsettlingly personal, she says.
“I Didn’t Even Know His Name”

Zhou insists she never sought Renner’s attention. “I did not reach out to him; he pursued me. I didn’t even know his name, never watched a movie of his,” she told reporters.
She says their connection was purely about work—her Disney documentary project—and had nothing romantic about it. “I only wanted to collaborate. That was all,” Zhou emphasized.
Renner’s Legal Team Strikes Back

Renner’s attorney, Marty Singer, paints a sharply different picture. According to TMZ, Singer claims Zhou “aggressively pursued” Renner during their first meeting in July 2025 and that the two shared “a brief consensual encounter.”
The letter insists the relationship ended amicably until, he says, Zhou sought publicity by linking Renner to her film.
The Night in Reno

Zhou recounts a disturbing evening at Renner’s Reno, Nevada, home. She says they met to discuss documentary logistics, but the atmosphere quickly soured. “He drank a bottle of wine alone and got angrier and angrier, yelling for two hours,” she told Daily Mail. Zhou claims she felt trapped, unsure if she could safely leave.
Locked Behind a Door

Fearing for her safety, Zhou says she locked herself in a room. “I prayed he would not come in that night,” she recalled. “I was terrified for my life.” She provided the Daily Mail with text messages that appear to show colleagues urging her to barricade herself in the bathroom and wait until morning.
“In Case Something Happens”

Zhou says she took extra precautions that night—sending her geolocation to her parents, team, and Disney colleagues. “I feared for my safety,” she told The Daily Mail.
She says she wanted someone to know where she was “in case something happened.” Yet one of her texts reportedly said she would “be safe” at Renner’s home, complicating the narrative further.
A Message About Immigration

Among Zhou’s most unsettling claims is a WhatsApp message she says Renner sent: “Immigration will be notified of your—” before it cuts off mid-sentence. She described the message as deeply frightening.
On Instagram, Zhou wrote that the apparent threat “shocked me to my core,” adding that for a filmmaker working in Hollywood, it felt “personal and existential.”
Renner’s Camp Denies ICE Threat

Renner’s representatives flatly deny sending any such message. “Jeremy Renner denies threatening to call ICE,” his spokesperson told Us Weekly. His attorney, Marty Singer, called Zhou’s allegations “false, outrageous, and highly defamatory” in a cease-and-desist letter obtained by TMZ.
Renner himself has remained silent publicly, relying on his lawyers to speak on his behalf.
Two Clashing Versions

What really happened between them remains bitterly disputed. Zhou portrays their partnership as one that turned dangerous when she rejected Renner’s advances. Renner’s team counters that Zhou pursued him romantically, then retaliated when he refused further involvement.
Both sides say they can prove their version of events, and both accuse the other of lying.
Renner’s Counterclaims

According to TMZ, Renner claims Zhou sent him “hundreds” of explicit messages after their August meeting and later threatened to “publicly harm” him unless he promoted her film. His attorney’s cease-and-desist letter frames her accusations as a form of revenge.
Zhou strongly denies this, calling the counterclaims “defamation” and “an attempt to discredit” her story.
A Legal Standoff Escalates

The conflict has become increasingly hostile. Zhou told TMZ she has sent Renner three cease-and-desist letters over the past month, warning him against defamation and blackmail.
Renner’s attorney responded with his own letter, accusing Zhou of spreading “salacious lies.” Both sides are threatening lawsuits if the other continues to speak publicly.
No Criminal Investigation—Yet

As of November 8, 2025, authorities have not confirmed any criminal investigation. For now, it remains a civil dispute between two public figures, each armed with lawyers, documents, and dueling stories.
What began as a promising collaboration has devolved into a Hollywood standoff, with careers, reputations, and credibility at stake.
