Truck Maker Crippled by Payroll Failure—Hundreds Laid Off, Doors Shut

Clean Trucking – Facebook

In November 2025, workers at Bollinger Motors found their paychecks missing. The electric truck maker skipped two payrolls in a row with no clear reason. Within weeks, the company closed its doors completely. This left about 70 employees in Michigan without pay they were owed. The failure shook the manufacturing world, marking yet another big flop in the industry.

The Payroll Problems Hit Fast

The money troubles struck without warning. Company emails showed a serious lack of cash stopped the October 31 payroll. Without funds for wages, work came to a full stop. Factory doors in Michigan stayed locked as staff grew angry and worried. No one knew if the business could keep going. Things got worse fast, leading straight to the company’s end.

From Early Dreams to Big Changes

Bollinger Motors started in 2015 with plans for electric SUVs for everyday buyers. In 2022, leaders switched focus to tough commercial trucks. They rolled out the Class 4 B4 truck in September 2024 for business fleets. The vehicle had a strong, rugged build that appealed to operators. But making enough trucks proved tough.

Money problems slowed everything down and the path to making profits turned out much harder than expected, halting the company’s progress.

Tough Economy and Money Struggles

High interest rates and rising prices made life hard for the young company. Bollinger got out of a court-supervised fix in June 2025. Then, Mullen Automotive bought 95% of it for a fresh start. Still, cash flow stayed shaky. The firm lost ties with key suppliers.

Day-to-day costs kept growing faster than sales. With no extra money saved up, recovery efforts failed. On November 21, 2025, Bollinger shut down for good. A filing with the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission confirmed job cuts and closures at its plants in Oak Park and Troy, Michigan.

Wide Fallout for Everyone Involved

The closure hurt many groups right away. Employees dealt with missing paychecks and no goodbye bonuses as holidays neared. Dealers sat with trucks they could not sell. They also lacked factory help for fixes or warranties. Buyers found their B4 trucks useless without spare parts or service plans. The sudden stop rippled out from workers to sellers and owners. All these people now face real money losses from the mess.

Part of a Bigger EV Truck Trouble

Bollinger’s fall fits a pattern of failures. Fisker went bankrupt in June 2024. Nikola followed in February 2025, and Ideanomics in December 2024. Each hit the same walls: sky-high production costs, inflation, and loan rates that climbed. These breakdowns show deep issues in the market for electric commercial trucks. Experts once called it the next big thing for hauling goods. Now, tough conditions raise doubts about survival for other new companies.

Mullen’s buyout of Bollinger aimed to save it but failed in just six months. This shows even bigger firms struggle in the shaky field. As the electric truck area shrinks, questions linger over Bollinger’s other projects, like the B5 and B6 models. The industry must decide if these are short bumps or signs of real market flaws.
