The shops utilized AI-generated images and polished lifestyle photos to suggest a British origin. Yet, customers received low-quality products shipped from China, or nothing at all, after trusting Meta-hosted ads that appeared legitimate.​

The BBC and Which? identified brands such as “C’est La Vie,” “Mabel & Daisy,” “Chester & Clare,” “Harrison & Hayes,” and “Omelia & Oliver Jewels.” Their websites claimed roots in Birmingham, Bristol, and other cities in the UK, complete with sentimental backstories. 

However, shipping records and corporate details indicated China or Hong Kong, while Trustpilot pages were filled with one-star reviews alleging misrepresentation and non-delivery.​

User Complaints Mount As Shops Vanish

Victims described ordering elegant jewellery or “timeless” clothing, only to receive flimsy, poorly finished items or nothing at all. Many found contact emails unanswered, return policies unenforceable, and company pages disappearing weeks later. 

With ads still circulating across Facebook and Instagram, shoppers assumed Meta had vetted the businesses. Instead, they discovered that reporting tools often produced little visible action.​

Which? and the BBC reported that Meta left several of these storefronts running despite waves of negative reviews and direct complaints. Only after the BBC’s story aired did Meta remove six of the highlighted fake brands.
